In this compelling programme, we examine apocalyptic predictions pertaining to the year 2012. Many oracles and prophets have stated that doomsday will arrive on 21st December, whether we are ready for it or not.
The Mayan Calendar, the Chinese oracle of the I Ching – and even an internet-based prophetic software programme – have emphasised the significance of this day. We ask if there is any truth to the prophecy that the world will end on a specific date. We also ask why so many oracles throughout history seem to point to that same dreaded doomsday.
This hour long documentary travels through time zones and continents, examining prophecies and oracles from around the globe. We reveal that the date appears again and again. The ancient Mayan Calendar, which is arguably more accurate than our own, posits 21st December 2012 as its final date.
The medieval predictions of the wizard Merlin, which lay forgotten for centuries, support the conclusions of the Ancient Maya. The Chinese I Ching, which is possibly the oldest text in existence, tells a similar story.
On a more modern note, a new technology called ‘The Web-Bot Project’ makes massive scans of the internet as a means of forecasting the future. This sage of the information superhighway has turned up the same dreaded date: 2012.
Other prophecies seem to support this doomsday, ranging from the ancient Roman Sibyl to the Book of Revelation. Yet sceptics examine the logical inconsistencies in the predicting the future, pointing to a long history of ‘failed Doomsdays’. However, many oracles of doom throughout history have a disturbingly accurate track record. As 2012 draws ever nearer, we examine whether there any reasons to believe these doomsayers.
