What is a Podcast?

The word "podcast" derives from the two words "iPod" and "broadcast". It's best to really think of a podcast as a programme or radio show that you can download to your iPod, MP3 or MP4 Player. Podcasts are listened to through a handheld device such as an iPod or through software on your computer such as iTunes.

What is the difference between an MP3 Player and an MP4 player?

MP3 means that you can listen to audio and is the main software used so you can listen to music and radio on your player. MP4 is the newer software that allows you to watch video.

If your podcasting device does not support MP4 files then you will not be able to watch video, however you will still be able to download the file to your device and listen to the podcast.

Several companies have been released players with video capability, but if you are still unsure as to whether you have an MP4 player then check your manufacturers handbook.

However, don't forget if you don't have a player such as an iPod you can still watch and listen to podcasts by using free software such as iTunes.
