English monk and historian. His writings are the principal sources of historical knowledge of the late 14th and early 15th centuries (covering the reigns of Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V). Works partly attributed to him include Historia Anglicana, 1272–1422 and Chronicon Angliae, 1328–88.
Walsingham was preceptor and superintendent of the scriptorium of St Albans Abbey, and later prior of Wymondham. Other works he is believed to have had a hand in compiling are Ypodigma Neustriae, a record of events in Normandy, and Gesta Abbatum.
