Tasso, Bernardo (1493–1569)
Poet from Bergamo (northern Italy). His career was spent in the service of various Italian princes: his oeuvre included Petrarchan lyrics, Horatian odes, a discourse on poetry (Ragionamento della poesia, 1562), and an epic Amadigi di Gaula, (1560), based on a Spanish work by Ordon&etilde;z de Montalvo.
His son, Torquato Tasso, was also an epic poet.
