Simon, (Marvin) Neil (1927- )

US dramatist and screenwriter. His stage plays (which were made into films) include the wryly comic Barefoot in the Park (1963; filmed 1967), The Odd Couple (1965; filmed 1968), and The Sunshine Boys (1972; filmed 1975), as well as the more serious, autobiographical trilogy Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983; filmed 1986), Biloxi Blues (1985; filmed 1988), and Broadway Bound (1986; filmed 1991).

He has also written screenplays and co‐written musicals; the latter include Sweet Charity (1966), Promises, Promises (1968), and They're Playing Our Song (1978). His autobiographical play Proposals was first staged in 1997.

Sid Vicious (real name Simon John Ritchie-Beverly), the lead singer of the punk-rock band The Sex Pistols, goes on trial in New York for the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. Having been released on bail, Vicious dies from a drugs overdose.
