Plantation of Ireland
Colonization and conquest of Ireland by English and Scottish settlers from 1556 to 1660. There were several rebellions against the plantation by the Irish and the Anglo‐Irish aristocracy. Major plantations included the Munster plantation, from 1586, and the Ulster plantation, from 1609. The final stages of the conquest took place under Cromwell.
