Nearchus (lived 4th century BC)
Macedonian officer under Alexander the Great. Nearchus was born in Crete but settled at Amphipolis in Macedonia. He led Alexander's fleet from the Indus to the Gulf 326–325 BC.
His account of the voyage was used by the the Greek historian Arrian in his work Indica and by the geographer Strabo.
