Circe

In Greek mythology, an enchantress living on the island of Aeaea. In Homer's Odyssey, she turned the followers of Odysseus into pigs. Odysseus, protected by the herb moly provided by Hermes, messenger of the gods, forced her to release his men.

The hero remained with her for a year, and she bore him a son, Telegonus. In one tradition Telegonus searched for his father, but killed him in a fight having failed to recognize him.

Circe also taught Odysseus how to avoid the lure of the sirens' song, and navigate between the monsters Scylla and Charybdis in the Straits of Messina, Sicily.
