Belgae
Name given by Roman authors to people who lived in Gaul, north of the Seine and Marne rivers. They were defeated by Caesar in 57 BC. Many of the Belgae settled in southeastern England during the 2nd century BC.
Belgic remains in Britain include coins, minted in Gaul, pottery made on a wheel, and much of the finest Iron Age Celtic art.
