Anu

Mesopotamian sky god, commonly joined in a trinity with Enlil, the god of storms, and Ea, the god of water.

Anu was the father and king of the gods, despite a relatively minor role in mythological texts. As ‘The High One’, Anu was thought to be god of the air and atmosphere and thus of the heavens. His consort was Antum (Anat) and the chief seat of his worship was Erech. The attributes of Anu were largely transferred to the latter Assyrian national god Ashur.

On the eva of the Havana Gran Prix in Cuba, Argentine racing champion Juan Manuel Fangio is kidnapped by Communist guerrillas loyal to Fidel Castro. Fangio was released by his kidnappers after the race finished.

In North Hollywood, U.S.A bank robbers Larry Eugene Phillips Jr, and Emil Dechebal Matasareanu start a mass shootout with Los Angeles Police after robbing a bank. Both robbers are killed.

In Northern Ireland, the IRA offer to shoot the killers of Robert McCartney. McCartney was allegedly killed by the IRA in January 2006. His family subsequently launched a high profile campaign to find his killers and rejected the offer by the IRA.
